The grading scale in Mexico is commonly 1 to 10, and teachers give examinations 5 times a year in each grade. The tests must cover the national curriculum, but are developed locally. There is a national examination at the end of the school year. Students who score less than a 6 on the test are retained in the same grade level for the coming year.

Practical note. Mexican students coming from primary schools have not been ability grouped. This U.S. practice may confuse parents and students alike

The Mexican grading system is 1 to 10.

According to Mexican Ministry of Education, this is the ranking:

10 Excellent

9 Very good

8 Good

7 Fair

6 Sufficient

<=5 Not sufficient

You would be prouder of a 9 of course.

Also, there is a saying in Mexico that goes "el 6 es obligación y lo demás es vanidad", loosely translated "6 is an obligation and the rest is a matter of vanity".

The grading system in Mexico is based either on a 100 or 10 scale. Typically the passing grade will be 6 or 60 but some schools set it at 7 or 70.

While on elementary school each academic year will have at least 1 monthly exam per class, a mid-term (6 months "Semestral exam"), and a final exam.

In high school and college the academic term is usually divided in semesters (6 months) where you would usually get 4 monthly exams and a final exam.

Both public and private schools have to have their programs aproved by the SEP (Public Education Agency). Public schools follow the program set by the SEP while private schools follow and add to it. While on elementary levels by the end of the school year both public and private schools students present a standard evaluation set by the state SEP board.

For more info on the Mexican Public Education Agency go to their website http://www.sep.gob.mx (it is only in Spanish)

Of course you would be prouder of a 9, getting a 5 would mean that you have flunked.

I'm not sure what the grading system in Mexico is, but I can tell you what the US is like.

From Kindergarden to 12th grade in high school grades are based on a 4.0 GPA (Grade Point Average) scale.

Typically,

A=4.0

B=3.0

C=2.0

D=1.0

F=0.0

So in each class you will recieve a letter grade, and so if you have for example 7 classes and you get 7 A's then it'll be

7(4.0)=28.0

28.0/7=4.0 ---- this would be the overall average.
