it is an evil scheme the shops have going to make us buy more hot dog rolls, because once you buy 2 packs of buns you need more hot dogs and some people with OCDs and stuff always buy in even numbers so you have to keep buying them until you find an even number or the world explodes!
alternatively you can ignore the crazy person with a key board... =P

You see...often times when you are eating a hotdog, it doesn't fill the whole bun. you have edges of the bun with no hotdog. So basically you use the extra hotdogs to fill the corners of your bun so you have a full hotdog+bun. Makes perfect sense! :)

The real reason is that each manufacturer has its own interests. They aren't the same entity. Hot dog manufacturers prefer to have packages weigh exactly a pound. It's easier to measure, sell, store, etc. Thus there are packages with 6 or even 4 larger, but the weight should add up to a pound, regardless. It happens to be that the most manageable size of hot dogs are an eighth of a pound, or 2 ounces.
The bakers have a different issue: pans. They use trays in various formations. The reason that a dozen is such a traditional baker's number is that it can be set up in configurations of 3X4 or 4X3 (or 2X6, or 6X2, but that's not common). When it comes to pans and ovens, maximum efficiency is key. Ten buns means it must be 2 rows of 5, which simply doesn't always work. The 3X4 rectangle is more convenient.

so that you buy 4 packs of hotdogs (10 * 4 = 40) and 5 five packs of hotdog buns (8 * 5 = 40) and it will all be even and the hotdog and hotdog bun industries get more money

Because someone was making a pack of hotdogs one day and he discovered while cooking them one rolled in the floor and the other one he wanted for a tasty snack. He then figured that this was the case in most households therefore inventing the 8 bun package!
so peachy

I have four possible answers, take any of them.
wholesome answer: for people with small children, so they have two to cut up into round pieces.
marketing scheme answer: so you buy 5 packs of buns and 4 packs of hotdogs to "even the score."
sickening answer: notice theyre usually gone by the time the buns are gone? yeah. its cuz your sister/wife is a lonely person and needed... a little extra company from mr.Frank. YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN.
my personal answer: because god hates you.

to torture innocent buyers because they're so busy doing boring business stuff that they don't have time to have barbeque's. they're jealous, take it as a compliment. or it could be that the hot dogs and the buns are made by different companies, so therefore are not trying to make sure that they are the same, they just want to sell their individual product.
