Question:
Left handed people?

How come they make things for right handed people but not left handed people? you know like notebooks the spiral is on the left. And its hard to write. Or like the mouse for your computer. Is there really not that many left handed people? I've heard people say that lefties are smarter than righties? Is that true?

They do. Golf clubs, scissors, notebooks... just about everything.

Computer mice are available or somewhat programmable... Real Mice are left footed.

Left handers use the right (not necessarily correct) side of their brain. They are better at some things, but then all people are better at some things more than other things.

I'm right handed but have known an oddly high amount of lefties over the years. Probably 20-30% of people i've met. And my grandmother is amidexterous (well, before stroke).

They do make most objects for both dexterities, but i dont know about a notebook. The reason the spiral is on the left is because of the way we read: top down, left to right. It would just confuse people if it went the other way. They would always be trying to read it backwards. You could always just start at the back of a notebook though and work forwards.

What may help you in writing is tilting the top of your book to the right. That was one of the first things i was taught in kindergarden: righties turn the top of the book to the left, and lefties turn the top of the book to the right. It is just naturally more comfortable when you write. You arm is then inline with the orientation of the page. But most of the lefties i've know do the righty position and write from above the line instead of from below (the correct way). And then you won't get all the lead or ink on your hand from dragging it across the freshly written surface! It's just something for you to think about though.

Okay, with a spiral notebook, can't you just turn the page and write on the back of the sheet and fold the notebook the other way? These days most spiral notebook paper is perforated anyway so once its torn out it doesn't matter if its the front of or back of the paper. My daughter is left handed and yes she definitely has a high I.Q. but I can't say that its because she is left-handed. I've always heard they are smarter because they use a different part of their brain than right-handers therefore they are using more of their brain than the rest of us.

they do make left-handed mouse for the computer...u only need to change ur mouse settings to invert the buttons properties. as for the notebooks, i know its a pain, im a lefty myself. u might want to try notepads that have the spiral at the top instead. the reason why they only do the notebooks with the spiral at the left, its because the standard way to read and write in north america is from left to right, which is why they don't make notebooks that have the spiral to the right, as we would be opening it backwards and not reading it in order.

We southpaws only make up about 10% of the population, so, yeah, most things are made for righties. However, you can find many things designed specifically for lefties. Go to Google and search "left-handed," you'll find shops that specialize in lefty items including notebooks with spirals on the other side, etc.

The buttons on your computer mouse, btw, can be switched so that the "left-click" button is under your left index finger instead of under your middle finger. Personally, I find it just as easy to leave the buttons as they are. I've also learned to use the mouse with my right hand. In class, this leaves me free to operate the computer with my right hand and take notes with my left hand, something nothing of my right-handed classmates can do.

You are mostly right except for mice. In the control panel under mouse you can change the properties of the mouse to left handed. There definitely not enough stuff for lefties, and if you can find it, it costs a lot more. My dad bought a set of left handed golf clubs for 1 1/2 times the same set in right set. I am ambidextrous and the only things that are basically right handed that I can use left handed is tools.

Actually this is not true at all. There no element of inteligence bettwen righties & lefties. This just a habit of doing work whether it is wrighting or working in computer with mouse. Some people have doubt in ther mind about such people. Ancient Romans have the feeling about lefties that , they are influenced by the devils that's why they are lefty. So, they never look them with a good eye sight. They had a feeling of hatered & somesort of fear in their mind. So, don't do such things and clearing all doubts be equal to both lefties & righties. Hope you will understand.

There is not enough of a market for many left handed items for several reasons. There are fewer left handers but most are able to get by using items designed for righties. Also, stores would need to carry two of each item one for lefties one for righties. It is not worth the cost.

There are some niche companies that make certain objects just for left handed people but they tend to be pricey. Among those I have seen are scissors and computer mouses.

Yes, i also heared that those ppl were smarter that right-handed ppl. Today ,there r mouses for lefties.

They got used to writing in notebooks where the spiral is on the left. I have a friend who is lefte-handed. She uses such things easly.

Good Luck!!

We think with the left side of our brain and use our right side for motor functions so a left handed person is always in their right mind.I believe most left handed people are very smart.Benjamin Franklin was left handed and so was Einstein . Many lefty's have earned fame and fortune and invented many things we can't live without today. It's an age old question-myself I think Lefty's are smarter -I'm told I'm biased because I'm left handed.Look through history though 75% of our presidents were left handed and many scientists are too.

Actually in this day and age you can get things specifically designed for left handed people and the mouse with software can be easily set up for the left hand. The problem is most of these things are more expensive then right handed stuff because most left handed people don't bother and there are fewer left handed people than right handed.

It is said that left handed people are more creative not smarter than right handed people. Probably because they had to be creative to deal with a right handed world.
2007-09-20 06:28:38 UTC
They use to make some left handed notebooks, I looked at them, and they looked absolutely ridiculous! I'm not sure if lefties are smarter than the people of the right hand... I'd like to think they're smarter!

I don't know but I did hear that lefties are smarter than righties. I am a lefty but sometime I use my right to do other things but like you I wish they start coming up with stuff for left hand people.

I left handed too, so is my husband and both daughters. My father was right handed and my mother writes with her left hand but uses are right to do just about everything else.

Well there are specialty stores out there that sell things for left handed people.

Computer mouse can be used left or right, all you do is reset the mouse setting under control panel.

Studies have shown that about 15% of the worlds adult population are left handed.

Since left-handed people are a minority, then the law of demand and offers naturally applies about goods of consumption. Since Israel is the country where left-handed people are the most numerous in the world, then Israeli made military small arms more suitable for both (i.e. the Galil Assault rifle, the Uzi sub-machine gun, etc).

But, well, I am just answering your question and I assume you are not necessarily looking for an assault rifle.

Anyways, you'll have more chances to find goods made for left-handed people in Israel than in any other place in the world; still owing to this law of demand and offer.

About intelligence, it is exact that a serious study published some decades ago, already showed that left-handed people had a higher IQ on the average.

4 out of every 5 people are right handed. If there was a larger majority left handed then you would see left handed things everywhere that's just basic economics. There are tons of stores on-line that cater to us lefties. Us lefties just have to learn how to deal in a right handed world. Up until recently school children were forced to use there right hand when they started to favor there left, teachers would tie the left hand to the backs of chairs.

There ARE things for left handed people. There is a left-handed shop near to where I live, and you can order most things online. The spiral on the notebook can't be on the right, it doesn't follow logic; you'd be writing backwards.
2007-09-21 07:57:55 UTC
If you look at history most of the famous people noted were left-handed. And yes, we are considered to be smarter, but I don't really see that as being a truism. How about a left-handed butter knife. If you go to a fancy restaurant they have butter knives for right-handed people, but if a left-hander wanted to use it they would have to hold the blade and spread whatever with the handle because they are designed to be used at an angle for right-handed people. If you go to Left-Hand World at Pier 39 in San Francisco, you can buy one for about $40. It is expensive because they don't make them but one at a time.

Good tniop! Just kidding. I do sympathize, despite being a righty.

A psychological study was done in England a couple of years ago of left-handed vs. right handed people that seems to indicate real differences -- not just preference.

The test consisted of placing people in front of a television monitor where they watched a tape of people who said various statements -- some true, some false. The people being tested were asked to identify when the people they were watching were telling the truth, and when they were lying.

Amazingly, the test found that left-handed people have significantly more difficulty accurately discerning a lying person from one who tells the truth.

Now I get it. No wonder that girl I loved so much (Susan Pickering...) left me for that jerk! She was left-handed!

By the way, did you know that the great golfer Phil Mickelson, who plays left-handed, does everything else right-handed? He learned to swing a golf club as a child by standing in front of his father and "mirroring" him -- and so, like all things in mirrors, did it "backwards"!

No I am sorry dear to inform you that lefties are NOT smarter than righties......Sorry!!!!

However I do understand your point about like the notebooks and stuff like that.

But it shouldn't be hard to write like that. The notebook will just be to the left of you instead of the right.

I am right here with a note book now acting like I am lefthanded and I don't see how how it would be a problem!

Same with the computer mouse...put it to the left of you!
2007-09-20 06:11:33 UTC
Speaking as a left handed person, YES left handed people are definitely more smarter then right handed people. Apparently left handed people are far more artistic and creative then right handed people. In actual fact a left-handers brain has information on writing skills in both lobes of it, as opposed to a right hander who only has it in the left side of their brain, making it easier for a left hander to write with both hands.

There are places that you can get left handed equipment, like a left handed can opener, ruler, scissors etc. Here's a useful website: www.anythingleft-handed.co.uk

well im left handed and so is my mother, father, and sister. my whole imedate family, how cool right, and it sucks how theres no left handed supplies, how ever the mouse on the computer can be switched over to lefty, by going into the computer settings and changing it and then the left button becomes right click and the right click becomes the left button but ur right there needs to be better left handed supplies and we r soooo much smarter
?
2007-09-20 06:11:31 UTC
they make allsorts of things for lefthanded people you just need to look for it. Go on a search engine and type in shops for left handed people there will be allsorts you can find. but the only reason you dont find left handed peoples things in shops is because most people are right handed but theres no difrence exept you write and use a diffrent hand to do things it dosnt make you smarter. My best friend it a left hander and she is soooo clever. Dont worry about it.

I'm left handed

10% of the U.S. populace are left handed

An average of 2,000 left-handed people around the world die each year trying to use right-handed equipment (construction)

Left-handed people are smarter than right handed people. It's a proven fact. This is also true. The left part of your brain controls your right. And your right part of the brain controls the left. Now, your right part of your brainis used for "smartness." Using your left hand, of course, makes your right part of your brain stronger and smarter. Therefore, you can learn, faster, easier, all of that.

I hate it to. Also, since we gotta write left to right. Whenever you write you get pencil led or pen ink on your hand. That's why I type.

But, I hate it too. It's very hard for me to use a notebook when wanting to write. But, hey if I get to be smarter out of the deal. I'll take it.

i'm a lefty. And it's not really hard living in a world where almost everything that we have are made for the convenience of right handed people. I don't know why i became a lefty but it's manageable. but i can't really say that i'm that smart. :))

there are left-handed products out there, and you can get into the controls for your mouse and make it "left-handed"--I did that at work with the computer I worked on all the time, and it really played mind games with right-handers.

type in left handed products into a good search engine and you will have many sources of products, ideas, information
