You mean as in "eBay?" It is the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, and includes Berkeley, Oakland, and a lot of towns further inland. Since the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) was developed, it is all within commuting distance of San Francisco. Lots of people who live there work in SF.

In California. "Bay Area" is San Francisco and surrounding areas but if you say I live in the "East Bay" then you are talking about Oakland/Berkeley/Richomd areas. it is East of San Francisco :)
